🍰✨

It’s September 13th and this is what I wore today.

There are many, many things that I want to say about this ensemble. I have been searching for the perfect white shirt for a long long time, so as soon as I found this oversized tunic from forever 21, I snatched it. I only wish it was an actual men’s shirt, with buttons going all the way down. That would be so much cooler. Sigh. Alas.

Second, Those are not black pants I’m wearing. I’m wearing my super secret and clever leggings-over-tights. I pull them out when I’m wearing something that is just long enough to be a mini mini dress. When pants are unacceptable AND tights alone are unacceptable. I’ve found my way around that.

Leggings alone are sometimes acceptable. But I tend to wear them to the gym mostly.

Today marked my first day of wearing a scarf as a hair accessory. Fresh off of fashion week, I decided to make bold fashion moves that I’ve never attempted before. I learned how to tie a head scarf (and a turban) from this video from The Fish Tank blog. Super simple.

Ring + nails. I will be doing my nails tomorrow and I want some ideas for what crazy fun patterns to attempt. Tweet me your ideas, if you are so inclined.

And these are my new oxfords! I broke them in this past week and now my feet hate me.

Also, you can see what I did with the whole leggings-over-tights thing up close. In real life, it looks like I’m just wearing socks.

Well that is it, see you tomorrow!

On Sunday I attended the Chictopia10 Conference in Union Square.

I cannot begin to tell you how nervous I was for this event. Meeting new people kind of terrifies me, especially when these people are really really pretty girls who all have successful style blogs.

But when I got to my table, I instantly felt better. All of the people that I sat with were so nice! It was great being able to discuss style blogging with people who actually could relate to what I was talking about. I’ve never met other bloggers before, so this was a really unique experience for me.

(sitting between the lovely Shen Dove and Anne Lee)

(I was tweeting my face off…so exhausting.)

I still cannot express how shocked I was at how NICE all of the other girls were! It was so cool to go up and have a conversation with Tieka, Liz, and Elizabeth, who have all in some way inspired me to start my own blog.

Other key points of the day:

  • All of the panels were wonderful. I loved the fact that nearly every panel was comprised of a CEO, a brand representative, a fashion journalist, and a blogger. It gave such a diverse perspective.
  • Everyone liked my nails.
  • Got an AMAZING outfit picture courtesy of the Modcloth photo booth
  • After the conference, I traipsed around the city for a bit. Went to Forever 21, Diesel, Whole Foods, and got “authentic NYC pizza” somewhere on 14th street.
  • It was also raining.
  • I went into the Marc Jacobs book store to seek refuge from the weather. Did you even know that Marc Jacobs has a book store?! I didn’t.
  • I arrived to the Juicy Couture after party fifteen minutes early. I could tell that the ladies in the store weren’t too pleased with me being there. Oops, oh well.
  • Almost bought a pair of Marc Jacobs rainboots ($40) and a Juicy Couture bracelet ($60). Kind of wish I bought the bracelet, I really miss it.
  • I left the party on the early side, and then went ALL THE WAY BACK HOME.

But before I did, I stopped for one last outfit picture in a parking garage..

What a crazy day. I love New York.

Mini Accessory Round-Up

This. Ring.

Do you think it’s Betsey Johnson?

I don’t know why I’m so afraid of wearing more than one bracelet/ring at a time. I like the metallic/wooden contrast of these bracelets.

I don’t know WHY I haven’t bought myself a pair of peacock earrings yet. This is just unacceptable.

This is the first tattoo of a rose that I’ve ever seen that has made me think, “I kind of want to get a tattoo of a rose.”

Seriously, it’s perfect.

Endless possibilities arise when you finally have a working scanner.

I developed probably 500 black and white pictures in photo class senior year, and now you can see 30 of them via Flickr.

Oh the memories.

There you go. Here’s a better picture of my acid nails.

I followed these directions to get this design. I had never done this sort of thing before to my nails and I just wanted to quickly supplement the directions in case you want to try something similar.

  • If you’re doing this for the first time, cover your work area with paper towels or newspaper. It gets quite messy. Also, have lots of cotton balls and q-tips on hand.
  • Do not use expensive nail polish. This project requires lots of nail polish, and you do not want to throw half of your $20 bottle of nail polish away. This project is perfect for using up those nail polish colors you have that you never use.
  • The directions say to dip one finger at a time into the nail-polish swirled water, but I say you should put your pointer, middle, and ring finger together (a la scout sign) and dip them all at the same time so you are maximizing the use of all of that nail polish. Then do both of your thumbs and pinky fingers together.
  • Also, do not dip your entire finger in the water. Try to leave your fingerprints and clean as you can, and only dip your fingernails in the water.
  • Clean up is quite extensive. While the polish is still wet, try to wipe it off on the newspaper/paper towel that you’ve laid out. When all of the fingers are done clean up with a cotton ball first, then a q-tip.

So there you go. My first attempt at nail marbling was pretty ok, and now I’m really psyched up to buy a bunch of cheap nail polishes from Walmart so I can try it again.

I think junior year will be the year of the psychedelic nails.

Is it really cheap of me to think that these flowers, which are made from dyed coffee filters, would make a pretty wedding bouquet if they were done in a bunch of different colors?

Hokay.

I know I talk about Battle Royale all the time, but this is the last time (maybe). I just finished the novel.

Well. I will say this. It is a very easy read. No big words, lots of description, and the gruesome parts are the most fun to read, because that’s where the author gets really colorful with the imagery. It also is very suspenseful, and once you pick it up, it’s pretty hard to put down.

That being said, I do prefer the movie. In the book there was a ton of back story, which is important, but there was just too much. It translates very well onto film, but in the book the flashbacks just kind of took away from the action.

The novel also repeats certain details incessantly. It became pretty annoying after a while.

Another thing that bothered me were the characters. All of these kids were supposed to be 8th graders, and everyone in the class was either a computer genius or a baseball star, or they were in a gang or they were a prostitute. Really? I could understand one kid in the class being in a gang or being really good with computers, but it seemed like everyone was like, “oh yeah, before we left I dismantled the government’s computer programming system so they can’t track anyone who hacks into their database.” No. No 8th grader does that.

Besides that, I enjoyed the book. The end actually was amazing, and much clearer than the ending of the movie. Again, I’m really happy with how well the novel translated onto film, there’s actually many slight details in the movie that weren’t in the book. If you are a fan of the movie, I would never discourage you from reading the novel, because it does enhance the overall experience.

And so concludes my summer of non-stop reading. I’ve decided to take a break for a while, since I’ve spent the past 4 months with my nose in one book or another. There are many books still left on The List, but I think I will save them for the school year or for winter break.Â
